The Power of Goodness.
Can goodness be a superpower to counter conflict and strife – locally and globally? This is the question we will explore during the Festival of Applied Philosophy in Thingeyri on 14 th and 15 th August.
The value of meeting others with care and respect is currently under geopolitical pressure, in an atmosphere where the most powerful decision-makers put previous allegiances and agreements aside. A disregard for goodness can be contagious, and appear locally and on a smaller scale.
Is it possible to rehabilitate goodness and mobilize the power of caring for other people? Goodness appears to be what some of the most powerful politicians and leaders fear the most. They often struggle to make sense of it. How can you prioritize the interests and well-being of others over your own?
We approach this theme with more questions than answers, and invite participants to share thoughts and experiences from their own lives.
Special guests at this year’s festival are the distinguished philosophy professors Eyjolfur Kjalar Emilsson and Vilhjalmur Arnasson. Both will contribute with a talk on the power of goodness.
